What is "Submitting"?Submitting to search engines (which you will see advertised as a “valuable service” by some companies), does not mean optimizing to achieve a top rank in the search engines and generally won’t do much for getting you traffic on its own. Submitting to search engines and directories simply means that you are letting the search engines know that your site exists and you would like them to review and index it. A web site should not be submitted until it is completely built, optimized and visible on the Internet. This is particularly important for directories as they review content and design. They then include and rank accordingly. Likewise, if your site has gone through a major redesign, then you will want to submit it again for review. Actually, in today’s search engine world, the idea of “submitting” is largely obsolete. Yes, they do still have tools allowing you to send in your site for review by its human or computer review. However, in the quest for high rankings in the search engines, this may not be the best method. Most of the current search engines actually prefer to “find” your site naturally. There are specific strategies involved to make this happen quickly and effectively which we will cover in the “link popularity” section. |
